Jordan Peele turns down directing Blade reboot

Earlier today we let you guys know that original BLADE star, Wesley Snipes approves of MOONLIGHT, GREEN BOOK, and TRUE DETECTIVE season 3 star Mahershala Ali as the title role in Marvel's upcoming reboot. And now we have word that GET OUT and US writer-director Jordan Peele has no interest in directing the new movie. Bummer.

Peele admits:

So many of those properties — it’s a childhood dream to be able to essentially see what you saw in your imagination as a child, watching or reading or whatever you were doing with that stuff. It’s a filmmaker’s dream. But you know, I feel like I only have so much time. I have a lot of stories to tell, and it just doesn’t feel right. It just doesn’t feel right. I’m a comic book and graphic novel appreciator, but I can’t call myself a true fanboy.

And while we're on the subject of what Peele will and won't direct, why did he pass up the opportunity to direct his upcoming "spiritual sequel" to Clive Barker's CANDYMAN? Peele explains:

Candyman was one of my favorites. As a director, if I was going to do any pre-existing property it’d be something like that. But I just feel like, look let’s help tell the story, but save my directing ventures for these stories that are my originals. I don’t know a better way to say it.

Who would YOU like to see direct this BLADE reboot? Let us know below!

The original BLADE followed this synopsis:

Half-mortal, half-immortal is out to avenge his mother's death and rid the world of vampires. The modern-day technologically advanced vampires he is going after are in search of his special blood type needed to summon an evil god who plays a key role in their plan to execute the human race.

The original 1997 adaptation was directed by Stephen Norrington (THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN) from a screenplay written by David S. Goyer based on the character created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan. Peter Frankfurt, Wesley Snipes, Robert Engelman, Andrew J. Horne, and Avi Arad produced. It starred Snipes, Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson, N'Bushe Wright, and Donal Logue. Buy it on Blu-ray HERE.
