Jordan Vogt-Roberts & Michael B. Jordan team for Detroit-based monster movie

It seems that KONG: SKULL ISLAND director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is eager to return to the realm of monsters as THR has reported that he's set to direct and produce a "creature-feature" for New Regency, which will also count Michael B. Jordan (CREED II) as a producer as well.

As expected, plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but it's said that the film is based on an original idea from Jordan Vogt-Roberts and that it will be set in the filmmaker's hometown of Detroit. The search is currently underway for a screenwriter to tackle the script. Vogt-Roberts told /Film that he got "jealous and inspired" by the things which Michael Dougherty and Adam Wingard are doing with GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS and GODZILLA VS. KONG that he decided to create his own monster sandbox to play in. "If you asked me [what] three of my favorite things are at any given moment I’d likely say, ‘Detroit, monster movies, and Michael B. Jordan.' So I figured out a way to combine them all into a single project," the director told io9. Although it certainly seems to hint at it, there's word on whether Michael B. Jordan will also star in the film. I'm always down for another monster movie, so this is exciting news. Stay tuned.

In addition to this new creature-feature, Jordan Vogt-Roberts has also been attached to direct a feature-film adaptation of Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear video-game franchise for some time. As for Michael B. Jordan, he'll next be starring in Destin Daniel Creston's JUST MERCY, a drama based on Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson's 2014 memoir of one of his first cases, which dealt with Walter McMillian, a young black man sentenced to death for a crime he didn't commit. JUST MERCY is set for a January 17, 2020 release.
