Joseph Kosinski is being eyed to direct reboot of Twister for Universal

I miss Bill Paxton. The late actor starred in so many classic films, one of which was TWISTER, the Jan de Bont film which followed a team of storm chasers and featured, for the time, cutting edge visual effects. It seems that we may have more TWISTER in our future as Variety has reported that Universal Pictures is developing a reboot of the film and are in negotiations with Joseph Kosinski to direct the project.

Frank Marshall is set to produce the TWISTER reboot and Universal is said to be meeting with writers to pen the script. While there aren't many details about the plot of the reboot, the original film starred Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt as "storm chasers and a couple on the brink of divorce. They team up to chase tornadoes in order to deliver their advance weather alert system that has to be placed in the path of the Twister." I'm not sure that TWISTER is one of those films begging for a reboot, but the lure of revamping the film with modern-day effects and bigger storm-chasing action must be powerful. How do you feel about TWISTER getting the reboot treatment?

Joseph Kosinski's next film is TOP GUN: LEGACY, the long-belated sequel to the classic Tom Cruise film. "After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him," reads the synopsis. "When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka 'Goose'." The film is slated to hit theaters on December 23, 2020.
