Exactly three months ago today we slapped you with an article which entertained the notion of Josh Brolin sitting atop Columbia’s wish-list to star in MEN IN BLACK 3. Well, not much has changed in 90 days, save for the fact that official casting of the project is coming down the pike here pretty soon. Though unconfirmed, word is Brolin is still likely to star, and according to the good dudes at Bloody-D, Sacha Baron Cohen and Jemaine Clement may be competing for a new character named Yaz. No, really!
None of the three actors have officially signed on, so this here “news” should be considered as part of the rumor mill for now, but what the hell.
Brolin, who’s coming off a hell of 2 year run, currently has projects underway with the likes of Oliver Stone, the Coen Brothers, Woody Allen, and of course can be seen headlining the western genre flick JONAH HEX this June. Not too shabby.
Sacha Baron Cohen currently has 5 or so projects in development. Jemaine Clement currently has 3 projects in post-production. Seeing how Clement has a more open slate in the coming months, perhaps he becomes the frontrunner to play this new Yaz addition.
There’s no denying what an acquired taste the humor of both men cook up, so it’s hard to say which will have a broader appeal. Cohen obviously has more mainstream work under his belt, but as a personal “Flight of the Conchords” fan (the first season anyway), I’m rooting for Jemaine to lock the role.
Who would you rather see? Cohen or Clement? And what about Brolin, do you see him as a good fit and/or possible replacement for Tommy Lee Jones? And where the hell is Big Willy in all this jazz?
