Josh Duhamel has a doomsday shelter

Celebrities can be pretty extravagant…Some spend their Hollywood dough on lavish mansions or dinosaur skulls or white Bengal tigers. But one Transformers actor has taken a different route…which leads underground. As it turns out, Josh Duhamel is putting his money and time towards building a doomsday shelter…you know, just in case.

While Josh Duhamel (whose most recent movie, Shotgun Wedding, premiered on Amazon Prime in January) obviously has to spend a lot of time in Los Angeles, he has also set up shop in North Dakota, which is where he has worked on his doomsday shelter. “I’ve become a bit of a doomsday prepper, I guess. So I’m learning how to hunt. I have wells. We have water. We have fuel. I’m building something so if things do go south, I have a place to take my family. And I believe that we could live off the land out there. I’m not very good at it yet, but I’m getting there.” Fortunately, Duhamel and Fergie divorced in 2019 so he won’t be stuck listening to her rendition of the national anthem for all of eternity.

But why would Josh Duhamel build the doomsday shelter now? Well, according to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the Doomsday Clock is currently at 90 seconds to midnight, “the closest to global catastrophe it has ever been,” citing nuclear risks, climate change, biological threats, and disruptive technologies. So…yay? With numbers like that, Duhamel might be onto something…

Josh Duhamel has been seriously prepping for doomsday, equipping the lot with everything he would need. Although his 54-acre compound in the woods started with no water or electricity, it has since progressed into a shelter with internet, a water filtration system and fully functional toilets. Lush! Even with electricity, though, he and the family won’t be sitting down for The Mighty Ducks, as Disney cut the quack earlier this year.

Josh Duhamel said he took most of his inspiration from various books and TV shows. “I’m working on those skills. I wouldn’t call myself an expert or a survivalist by any means, but I’m getting better at it.” One of the biggest goals he wants to accomplish? Killing and dressing a deer.
