Stephen Norrington out, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo in!
Relativity Media just issued a press release announcing that Fresnadillo, the Spanish director of 28 WEEKS LATER and INTACTO, has officially closed a deal to helm a reboot of 1994 Gothic revenge pic THE CROW. Sound like a good fit to you?
Word is a new writer will come in to either rework Nick Cave’s draft, or start over with Fresnadillo entirely. Either way, Juan Carlos will definitely have script input.
Regarding the decision, Relativity’s Tucker Tooley had this to say:
“Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is an incredibly talented and imaginative filmmaker. We are thrilled to have him at the helm and are excited to work with both Pressman and Apaches on what we all believe will be a compelling and innovative reimagining of The Crow.”
Edward R. Pressman, who will jointly produce, added this:
“The original Crow was groundbreaking cinema; its gothic visual and musical ideas influenced a generation and cinema itself. With Juan Carlos, we have every confidence that his new Crow will have a similar impact on the contemporary audience.”
As you know, Stephen Norrington (BLADE) had previously been attached to reboot THE CROW, with Mark Wahlberg rumored to play the titular lead as well. At this time, no new cast announcements have been made.
