Jurassic World’s Colin Trevorrow to direct sci-fi thriller Intelligent Life

THR is reporting that DreamWorks has picked up a sci-fi thriller called INTELLIGENT LIFE written by SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED director Colin Trevorrow and his writing partner Derek Connolly. Trevorrow is also attached to direct the film, and sources have told the site that "the tone harkens to Safety Not Guaranteed and is a big idea surrounded by rich characters."

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but apparently INTELLIGENT LIFE is a new take on an earlier Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly project called THE AMBASSADOR, which was going to be Trevorrow's SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED follow-up before he was tapped to direct JURASSIC WORLD. THE AMBASSADOR would have followed a "U.N. worker in a department that was to represent humankind in the event of alien contact." The worker falls in love with a mysterious woman, who (of course) turns out to be an alien. So CONTACT meets UNDER THE SKIN?

While I'm not that high on JURASSIC WORLD, I am excited we are finally getting a new installment in the franchise, and I definitely want to check out INTELLIGENT LIFE. I'm a sucker for sci-fi thrillers, and Trevorrow's next project sounds like it could be an interesting little movie.

Colin Trevorrow's JURASSIC WORLD will be in theaters on June 12, 2015.
