Okay, to start off, I just have to say that if the writer/director of the following indie horror is remembered for one single thing, it will definitely be his remarkable name: Nuna Minch. Doesn’t that just sound like a horror filmmaker’s name? ”I’m checking out the new flick from Nuna Minch, man!”
Anyways, this new flick from Nuna Minch is simply called BRUTAL and it is his debut. He also serves as the cinematographer, editor and music supervisor — must be a hard worker. Here’s the plot:
The movie tracks a group of ghost hunters/documentarians as they search for a reported haunted site along a riverbank in Caledonia, Wisconsin. While looking for the spot where a young boy who disappeared is rumored to appear, the group runs into the wrong person. Intense, bloody mayhem (see pic above) then ensues.
If you’d like a live taste of what said “mayhem” exactly entails, then just take a look at the clip posted below. Get ready to hear a lot of screaming — Not bad at all! One of BRUTAL’s actors, Paddy Fineran, had this to say about the flick: “[It’s] an indie/art-house-style horror movie that’s sure to push buttons and generate some controversy, as most films that strive to go past the usual do. The cast is new and fresh, and much of the action is ‘real.’ The budget didn’t provide for breakaway or padded walls or fake instruments of death. Concussions, broken bones and real blood were a daily outcome of shooting. When there’s that squeamish moment where you wonder, ‘How did they do that?’ be aware they just did it, and that sickening sound just may be real.”
That’s a damn fine description and does pique my interest for this flick. The rest of the “fresh cast” includes Nuna, Anya, Andrea and Mark Minch (way to make use of the fam!), plus McLain Kittleson, Michael Viers, Jacqulyn Rousseau, Roni Alwaise and Mike Schoen. BRUTAL is set to have its premiere October 30th at Milwaukee’s Downer Landmark Theatre. For more info, you can check out its MySpace page here.
