Kaiju royalty pierces the sky in new Godzilla: King of the Monsters poster

Find yourself an underground bunker and start monitoring your Jell-O molds for violent and unprompted jiggles, because the next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic Monsterverse, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, has come stomping onto this Thursday afternoon with a brand-new poster. The stylish new print gives us the full-monty version of an image that's been passed around like a hot potato for director Michael Dougherty's upcoming monster mash, which has the King of Monsters himself shouting toward the sky, belching out a blue beam of radioactive fire. It's a power image to be certain, and one that should send shivers down the spines of 'Zilla fans the world over.

The film stars Kyle Chandler (ARGO, THE WOLF OF WALLSTREET) as well as Vera Farmiga (THE CONJURING franchise) and STRANGER THINGS star Millie Bobby Brown for her feature film debut. Also included in the ensemble cast are Bradley Whitford (GET OUT), Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins (THE SHAPE OF WATER), Charles Dance (LAST ACTION HERO, GAME OF THRONES), Thomas Middleditch (HBO's SILICON VALLEY), Aisha hinds (STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS), O'Shea Jackson Jr. (STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON), David Strathhairn (GODDNIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK), with Ken Wantanabe (INCEPTION) and Ziyi Zhang (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON).

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed Ghidorah.  When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

In addition to directing the feature, Dougherty also wrote the script alongside Zach Shields, from a story crafted by Dougherty, Max Borenstein and Zach Shields, based on the characters “Godzilla,” “King Ghidorah,” “Mothra” and “Rodan” owned and created by Toho Co., Ltd.

As the third Monsterverse chapter, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS follows Gareth Edwards' GODZILLA (2014) and Jordan Vogt-Roberts' KONG: SKULL ISLAND (2017) for more monster-on-monster action. The next film in the Monsterverse plan is GODZILLA VS. KONG, which is set to be directed by Adam Wingard (YOU'RE NEXT) for a March 13, 2020 release in theaters.

Meanwhile, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS will be stomping its way into cinemas beginning on May 31, 2019.
