A period fantasy set in a Victorian-era alternate universe in which mankind has been exploring the solar system since the time of Isaac Newton, LARKLIGHT revolves around a brother and sister who team with a band of renegade space pirates to save the world from destruction at the hands of a madman.
That is either brilliant or unbelievably cheesy. Either way I’m down! THe Hollywood Reporter just dropped the news that Shekhar Kapur has signed on to direct this adventure. He’s also been pegged to adapt the script with Steven Knight.
LARKLIGHT is based off the novel by Philip Reeve of the same name. It’s coming from Warner Brothers with Denise Di Novi of Di Novi Pictures producing. Alison Greenspan will be executive producing. In regards to the budget for LARKLIGHT, here’s what Kapur had to say:
“It’s a $200 million project, probably the most expensive film I’ve made and will ever make.”
Sounds good to me! Mind you though, this won’t be your basic happy-go-lucky adventure. Kapur’s credits include THE FOUR FEATHERS and a couple of those ELIZABETH films. Knight’s former works include AMAZING GRACE, EASTERN PROMISES, and the currently filming SHUTTER ISLAND. So just from that list of credits, it seems LARKLIGHT is shaping up to be something epic.
Or at least that’s what they’re hoping for. A big budget, potentially epic sci-fi flick about a couple siblings battling space pirates and a madman who wants to take over the world? All good. Now we’ll just wait and see who steps up to star in LARKLIGHT. In the meantime enjoy the completely random hottie below.
