Karloff lives again!

I almost pooped my pants when I saw this, and fans of the classic Universal monsters should too (well, not near me, I’m not into that stuff).

Sideshow Toys is at it again, this time with a 1:1 scale bust of Ardeth Bey, who was played by the legendary Boris Karloff (I loved him more as Frankenstein’s Monster, but still). The Ardeth Bey bust is the first announced by Sideshow for it’s Classic Monsters 1:1 scale bust series, which should be available the 2nd quarter of 2006. This one will retail for $550 US, with optional installment payments. Pre-orders are being accepted right now, so get on over here to get with it.

Scuplted by Mike Hill, this bust features a real felt fez, complete with tassel, and expertly tailored clothing with front tie closure. The bust is mounted on a colorful base sculpted by the Gore Group, recalling the spirit of the original movie poster, and created in “living color” from the original black and white film, the movie make-up techniques, colors and products used in the 1932 make-up design by Jack Pierce. All the makeup designs were thoroughly researched and taken into careful consideration for the sculpt, paint scheme and texturing of Ardeth Bey’s leathery, parchment-like skin, to achieve the highest level of authenticity. Each bust will be hand numbered, and like a lot of stuff this cool, it will be in limited quantities, so act fast when these puppies go on sale.
