First off, it’s from entertaining trash auteur Dominic Sena, who directed such gems as SWORDFISH and GONE IN SIXTY SECOND. Say what you will, but those flicks were fun (at least SWORDFISH was). Second, it’s based around the notion of the first murder to ever happen in the Antarctic, and it’s up to U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko to uncover who the murderer is… before the sun sets for six months. If she doesn’t, she’ll be stuck there, in the dark with the killer, until it becomes light again.
Need more reasons? Ok, third. Beckinsale. That really should be your only reason, but there you go. Beckinsale. She’s a flippin’ robo-babe and a half- to quote Garth Algar, if she were a president, she’d be Baberham Lincoln. Any movie where it stars her versus a killer in the snow… I’m so there!
I only see a few problems with this flick, and really… they’re not so bad. One, why the hell would a U.S. Marshall care about what happens in the Antarctic? I didn’t know jurisdiction went that far outside the U.S…. and second, Beckinsale would have to be bundled up the entire time. And yo… that just ain’t right.
Regardless, the beautiful Beckinsale hasn’t officially signed on, as the project is still in negotiations, but I have a feeling she’s gonna go for it… and why not? Doesn’t look like there’ll be another UNDERWORLD movie anytime soon.
