Kelly does Werewolves

There’s been so much talk of all the vampire movies coming out that it seems like Hollywood forgot all about the other classic monster, the Werewolf. Aside from THE WOLF MAN, there hasn’t really been anything in production that grows fangs and sprouts fur. Until now.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Patrick Smith Kelly is set to adapt the Kit Whitfield novel BENIGHTED. It’s pegged as a supernatural thriller and is being produced by Graham King and Andrew Adamson, who also might be directing. Kelly’s former works include A PERFECT MURDER and DON’T SAY A WORD. Now I haven’t read BENIGHTED, but this seems to be going down a different route for the writer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, BENIGHTED is set in an alternate reality in which 90% of the population are werewolves and the minority human population is responsible for keeping the peace during the full moon. The book follows the story of Lola, a member of the police force investigating a series of suspicious, unsolved murders.

That sounds pretty sweet. It’s geared up for some intense action during the full moon. Now I’m still waiting for a great werewolf flick. I had hopes for CURSED, and maybe it’s because I’m a big Wes Craven fan, but I didn’t think it was that bad. But still, it didn’t live up to the likes of ‘great werewolf movie.’ This one has potential. We’ll keep you updated for any info on BENIGHTED.
