Somewhere, in a galaxy far, far away, Darth Vader screams the word “No!” I’ve got upsetting news if you’ve waited years for Kevin Feige to begin work on his Star Wars feature. Your space princess is in another castle. While waxing rhapsodic with Entertainment Tonight about Marvel Studios’ latest superhero spectacle, The Marvels, Feige confirmed his Star Wars project is no longer in development.
Initially, Feige would develop and produce a new movie in the Star Wars Universe. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe needs his full attention, with dozens of film and television projects on the horizon. Feige’s Star Wars film had Loki creator Michael Waldron writing the script, but that’s about as far as details went.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Ash Crossan asked Feige if there’s any chance we’ll hear more about his Star Wars movie. “No,” Feige responded, finally putting rumors about the project’s ongoing development to rest.
In 2019, Walt Disney Studios co-chairman and chief creative officer Alan Horn told The Hollywood Reporter that Feige was gearing up to organize a film set in the Star Wars Universe. “We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox. With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together.”
Earlier this year, Variety reported that the Star Wars movies from Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkins were getting shelved. Lucasfilm first tapped Patty Jenkins to direct Rogue Squadron in December 2020, but the studio later pulled the project from its schedule alongside anything Feige was developing for the universe.
It’s nice to have confirmation from Feige that the project is dead, even if it means any hope of the project coming to life is ending.
