Kevin Spacey used to be known as one of the finest actors of his generation, one of the select few who won Oscars in two different categories. Now, the sexual misconduct claims against him plague the actor’s every move both personally and professionally. But Kevin Spacey is hoping to rebound, saying that there are a number of people eager to work with him.
Speaking with German publication Die Zeit, Kevin Spacey said, “It’s a time in which a lot of people are very afraid that if they support me, they will be cancelled…But I know that there are people right now who are ready to hire me the moment I am cleared of these charges in London. The second that happens, they’re ready to move forward.” The charges he’s referring to stem from 12 counts. As noted by Die Zeit, “Four men have accused him of sexual assault and two claim they had non-consensual sex with him.” The four-week trial is set for later this month.
Kevin Spacey’s certainty of being cleared goes back at least to actor Anthony Rapp, whose allegations against Spacey – stemming from incidents Rapp claimed happened when he was a teenager – saw the jury favoring Spacey. Still, it was a watershed moment that resulted in losing out on a number of projects, including the Emmy-winning House of Cards, even though the jury favored Spacey during that trial. “The moment scrutiny is applied, these things fall apart…That’s what happened in the Rapp trial, and that’s what will happen in this case.”
Regardless of whether or not Kevin Spacey is seen as guilty or not by the U.K. jury later this month, he claims he won’t be out for revenge. “I’m not trying to even the score…I have no interest in fighting something that’s not worth fighting against.” As far as who he hopes to be when all of this clears, well, “I f*cking hope I will be a better Kevin Spacey!…In 10 years, it won’t mean anything…My work will live longer than I will, and that’s what will be remembered.” Kevin, we’d like to introduce you to Wikipedia, where your “Sexual misconduct allegations” will be clicked far more than “Awards and nominations”.
Whether or not Kevin Spacey actually has a lineup of people “ready to hire him”, one does wonder if enough of the public will turn out for his movies. After all, 2018’s Billionaire Boys Club only took in $126 on opening day.
