Perhaps you’ll recall from a couple of month ago news of a companion series for the CW’s “Vampire Diaries” that Kevin Williamson was forging. Williamson, the executive producer on “Vampire”, said himself that the show would deal with paranormal goings-on at a college… Sounded like a bit of fun, but it would appear as though we won’t be seeing it anytime soon.
According to Deadline.com, Williamson is too busy working on “Vampire Diaries” to work on his new show, so it’s been put on hold indefinitely. However, he’s apparently not too busy to hop onboard another CW drama project, called “Secret Circle”, which is based on a three-book series from “Vampire Diaries” author L.J. Smith.
The first book in the series, and presumably the set-up for the TV show, has this synopsis: Shy, sixteen-year-old Cassie falls in love with the mysterious Adam before moving to New Salem, thinking she’ll never see him again. But as it turns out, Adam is there, too, at a high school where a strange elite rule. Beautiful fair-haired Diana, whom Cassie learns to love as a sister; voluptuous dark Faye, who wants to turn Cassie into her puppet. The greatest surprise: Cassie, like the other elite boys and girls, is a witch!
Sounds right up the CW’s alley. Williamson joins producers Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain, both of whom worked on the CW’s “Angel”. The network is obviously loving being the the genre game, with “Vampire Diaries” and “Supernatural” still going strong, and the just announced preparation of a zombie apocalypse show called “Awakening”.
