Kidman is all Dusty

Nicole Kidman hasn’t had a straight-up hit since THE OTHERS, but that hasn’t knocked her off the A-list thanks to prestige projects like THE HOURS. Now she’s reuniting with Michael Cunningham, the writer who helped her grope for Oscar gold with that film.

Kidman will lend her milky skin, lilting voice and seemingly laminated appearance to a biopic about beehived Brit songstress Dusty Springfield. Kidman, who’ll next be seen with Hugh Jackman in the epic AUSTRALIA, will also produce the Fox movie, which will have to duel with a competing Springfield project from Universal.

A pop star who emerged in the 60s, Springfield is perhaps known to the current generation because Quentin Tarantino resuscitated her hit song “Son of a Preacher Man” for PULP FICTION, unwittingly creating an abused musical selection of wedding bands and karaoke bars.
