So I dropped by Twitch today and saw an article for this flick that really caught my eye. The Chilean movie is called SOLOS (DESCENDANTS) and is by Chilean director Jorge Olguín. Now before I get into SOLOS, I think it’s worthy to note a couple of Olguín’s other films in ÁNGEL NEGRO, SANGRE ETERNA, and CALEUCHE. After reading up a little on these, they all seem to be decent flicks with great plots, but SOLOS stands out in my eyes.
Now according to Twitch, while waiting for his lead actress to clear her schedule to star in CALEUCHE, Olguín went and made this other movie, SOLOS. According to an article in Variety, Olguín shot SOLOS in digital high-def in only 9 days. Not too shabby.
The synopsis for SOLOS is: A ten year old girl awakes alone in the middle of a devastating place, and begins to ramble by a contaminated land, in search of food and more people, but she only discovers that she’s in the middle of a war where people are executed in horrible ways by the military covered with gas masks. Soon she will discover that the people who survive the mass executions are people which have severe infections on their bodies. She only finds company on other small children which have something in common with her, the recurrent dream of going to the sea. In search of this only objective the group of children will try to arrive at the sea, crossing by a city in ruins followed by the dangerous armed military.
I can see the resemblance to 28 DAYS LATER and 28 WEEKS LATER, but SOLOS still stands out to me. No release date or any other info is available for SOLOS, but I’ll be keeping my eye on it.
