Killer tire flick Rubber rolling into theaters and on demand next year

Quentin Dupieux’s RUBBER made headlines when it premiered at Cannes and was picked up for distribution by Magnet Releasing. The film has now locked down a pair of release dates. It will be available on demand on February 25th before a limited theatrical run on April 1st.

The April 1st date is a crowded one, with James Wan’s INSIDIOUS, Duncan Jones’ SOURCE CODE, Darren Lynn Bousman’s MOTHER’S DAY, and James Gunn’s SUPER all due out on the same day. We’ll see if any of them back out.

RUBBER is the story of Robert, an inanimate tire that has been abandoned in the desert, and suddenly and inexplicably comes to life. As Robert roams the bleak landscape, he discovers that he possesses telepathic powers that give him the ability to destroy anything he wishes without having to move. At first content to wreak havoc on small desert creatures and various lost items, his attention soon turns to humans, resulting in the most gory vehicular-related mayhem inflicted on screen by an “inanimate” object since Christine.
