King into Roth’s Cell

Stephen King is, without a doubt, my favorite author of all time. His writing style, the stories he comes up, everything about what he puts out makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. When he wrapped up THE DARK TOWER series he tried to say he was going to retire and not write again. Lucky for us, the guy can’t live unless he’s writing, and he followed it up with CELL, one of his better stories to date. So of course, it’s now up to made into a movie, with none other than Eli Roth at the helm.

Say what you will about Roth, the guy knows horror and I think if anyone could bring CELL to life on film, it’s him. King also seems to feel the same way, as Roth told Sci-Fi Wire that Stephen King was like, ‘Do whatever you want.’ when it came to his adaptation of the book.

Yes folks, sadly enough Roth will be changing the story a bit, but from the sounds of it, it’ll be changing it for a more fun cinematic ride. Check it: I love the opening [scene],but I also want to keep, … not necessarily that same chaotic tone, but I want to keep the tension of the opening 40 pages of the book going throughout the whole film.

And who can argue with that? Not that I felt the tone lightened up after those first initial pages, but at least Roth’s vision doesn’t set have taking a cruise ship to Panama to get away from it all. Because that wouldn’t make any sense. Honestly, I was somewhat glad when the tension dropped in CELL, because I don’t think I could take an entire book with that much intensity! Let me catch my breath after awhile!
