King/Hill’s Throttle

Even though he’s actually the author of many a novel, Stephen King is a big name when it comes to horror flicks. That’s because most of his novels and/or short stories are so good that they just beg to be made into movies… or because he’s Stephen King.

Either way he’s the man. And today Variety have word on the next King story getting the film treatment. There’s actually a couple interesting bits about this particular novella, first it’s not even out yet. Secondly it’s a collaboration with his son Joe Hill!

The story I’m speaking of is THROTTLE and is looking to be released in 2009 in the anthology HE IS LEGEND, which is dedicated to fellow horror novel all star Richard Matheson.

THROTTLE follows a father and son who’re part of a motorcycle gang that’s chased through the desert by an 18-wheel tanker truck. So it’s basically JOY RIDE where your rooting for the truck driver? Well it’s Stephen King, so it’s worth a shot.

Nick Wechsler is producing out of his own pocket. He had the following to say about THROTTLE:

“It has elements of iconic films like ‘Duel’ and ‘Breakdown,’ but with a horror element that I want to push.”

The ‘horror element’ he speaks of isn’t obvious in the simple plot given above, so I’m eager to see what spin King and Hill put on this story. Unfortunately Wechsler is known to pick up rights early and take his sweet time finding a studio to back him, so it might be a while before we see THROTTLE.

Maria Bello starred in King’s SECRET WINDOW.
