King’s TV Haven

A few years back, after the completion of THE DARK TOWER series, author Stephen King announced that he would be retiring from writing, that THE DARK TOWER would be his final opus. Right… Problem is, King loves writing too much to simply stop, so after a few months, he busted out with a small little novella called THE COLORADO KID, which was a dark little detective story that read like a classic pulp mystery.

King has since gone on to write and publish numerous books since then, but THE COLORADO KID was the one that told the world that he just kidding, and that he’s back in full force to go at it once again.

According to Variety, THE COLORADO KID is being made into a TV series for indie studio E1 Entertainment, with the same team of producers and writers as USA’s THE DEAD ZONE series bringing this badboy to the small screen. They’re dropping the original title and going with HAVEN, which will go a little something like this: the project centers on a spooky town in Maine where cursed folk live normal lives in exile. When those curses start returning, FBI agent Audrey Parker is brought in to keep those supernatural forces at bay — while trying to unravel the mysteries of Haven.

The basic premise is close to the story, but this whole angle of cursed folk… maybe it’s been too long since I’ve read the book, but I don’t remember anything like that going on in the original story. Supernatural forces? Are we talking the same COLORADO KID? Anyone? Anyone?

Either way, the premise itself sounds cool enough, and I can see this being a show I’d want to tune in and check out each and every week, especially if King’s involved in any way, shape, or form. Thirteen episodes have already been committed, now it’s just a matter of getting them made and slapping them on air. Cool beans.
