Knives Out 2 trends on Twitter with fans as most anticipated sequel

KNIVES OUT became one of the true standouts for original film last year as the ensemble whodunit was a massive success with critics and audiences alike. The film went on to earn more than $300 million worldwide and this immediately began conversations about whether or not a sequel would be made. Lionsgate and director Rian Johnson eventually confirmed that they were moving forward with a sequel that would follow Daniel Craig's Detective Benoit Blanc tackling a brand new mystery. Even though we don't know what kind of mystery KNIVES OUT 2 will explore, it hasn't stopped fans on Twitter from making the film trend as the most anticipated sequel.

"DiscussingFilm" assembled a group of movies that are currently in development and asked Twitter users to keep three projects alive and cancel the rest. Despite the presence of some major franchise installments in the bunch, KNIVES OUT 2 has been dominating the conversation so far with than 4,000 tweets proclaiming the desire for the sequel's arrival. The sequel is currently being discussed more than SPIDER-MAN 3, DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS, the reboot of BLADE, DC's BLACK ADAM, AQUAMAN 2, ATOMIC BLONDE 2, VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE, GODZILLA VS KONG, HALLOWEEN KILLS, SCREAM 5 and CHICKEN RUN 2.

This is just a consensus on Twitter and it may not represent the sequel that everyone is anticipating but the fact that it's outpacing some of these high-profile releases should say a lot about fans eagerness for Johnson's followup. The writer/director began working on KNIVES OUT 2 script at the beginning of 2020 and I'm going to assume that Johnson had made great progress with it during quarantine. There is no release date set for KNIVES OUT 2 and the likes of Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Ana de Armas, or Chris Evans likely won't be returning since the focus will be on a new mystery and story but at least we'll have the antics of Craig's Detective Benoit Blanc to look forward to. Also, the original KNIVES OUT came together rather quickly for a film with such a large ensemble so hopefully the same can happen with the sequel.
