Lakeith Stanfield joins Girl in the Spider’s Web

THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB may not see the return of Rooney Mara’s Lisbeth Salander and Daniel Craig’s Mikael Blomkvist, but the new film has secured fine actors in Claire Foy and Sverrir Gudnason nonetheless. The ensemble got a little bit better recently, as GET OUT actor Lakeith Stanfield is joining the thriller.

Little details about his character were given, but sources (per THR) say he’s playing an NSA security expert who working to track down Salander. Stanfield’s casting comes a few weeks before the movie is set to start shooting, which will begin later this month in Berlin and Stockholm with Fede Alvarez (DON'T BREATHE) helming.

Stanfield has been becoming a notable name in Hollywood over the last year or two, and in 2017 had major roles in GET OUT, CROWN HEIGHTS and Netflix’s WAR MACHINE, THE INCREDIBLE JESSICA JAMES and DEATH NOTE. He had small roles in movies like SELMA and STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON (as Snoop Dogg) but earned a lot of attention for his work on the FX show, ATLANTA, with Donald Glover.

The man has not only been starring a bunch of stuff recently but has been showing an impressive range as an actor in all those projects. There are horror movies, comedies, dramas and perhaps his most prominent role as the eccentric “L” in DEATH NOTE. He’s been impressing me with his talent in all this work, and I’m glad he’s expanding into different territory. I have high hopes for this new film, even if it will be hard to top 2011's DRAGON TATTOO.

THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB hits theaters October 5 this year.
