Larry weighs Peter

The original IT’S ALIVE from 1974 was written and directed by Larry Cohen (right), who has been churning out wild genre pieces for quite a while from MANIAC COP to CAPTIVITY. The man shows a clear affinity for thrills and chills and now comes word that he may be stepping into a brand new genre project that has one quirkily creepy plot. The flick is simply called PETER, from Telepathy Film Productions, and here’s what it’s all about:

A fit man, Peter Hansen, closely watches his weight like a stockbroker watches his stocks. He marries a fit woman who within a year becomes a fat woman. His desire for her and himself to become the perfect weight leads him to a diet drink called “Burn Off,” which does and does not do what it advertises: the user loses weight but also loses all sense of reasoning. Peter doesn’t know whether to blame the drink or himself for turning into a sadistic murderer and keeping his wife a prisoner in his basement.”

Sounds like there’s loads of room for some sick fun! I’m a big fan of ordinary people being somehow transferred into psychotic killers. Hopefully if Cohen does decide to come aboard, he’ll be able to find a nice balance of horror and humor. This guy is a seasoned pro by now, so I’m not too worried.

It seems that there is an interesting array of actors interested in joining PETER too. Jason Mewes, Tony Todd, Elizabeth Berkley (below), Omar Gooding and Noel G have all expressed interest in roles. I’ll provide you with more info on that as I hear it.
