I’m talking about Von Trier’s upcoming flick MELANCHOLIA, which we last told you about in February. The film is ‘a contempo psychological drama come end-of-the-world disaster movie’ that would essentially follow the events that happen when a giant planet called Melancholia begins looming harmfully too close to Earth.
Well it seems MELANCHOLIA, which promises ‘no more happy endings,’ has found lots of backers! Thanks to Variety we’ve learned that Denmark’s Zentropa Ent, Arte France Cinema, Liberator Prods, France’s Slot Machine, Germany’s Zentropa Intl. Koln, and Sweden’s Memfis Film Intl. and Trollhattan Film will all be co-producing the film with Meta Foldager and Louise Vesth. Damn those are going to be some long ass opening credits! But hey, at least the flick is getting some major coin behind it! That could be a very good sign. … Or a disaster waiting to happen. Flip of the coin? Which do you think it’ll be? Hit us with your thoughts below!
MELANCHOLIA, which is looking at a budget of around $8 million, will start filming in Sweden this July and will be shot in English. Also released today was the very early concept art you see below. So what’ve we got? Our beloved Earth getting a little two friendly with some giant, menacing planet. Uh-oh.
