Last premiere Rites

The dudes at David Magdael & Associates dropped us a line with a good ol’ press release for LAST RITES, the first ever unholy mash-up between two popular movie genres: Old School zombie horror and New School gangster thrillers. The film will make its pulse-pounding world premiere at the 2006 Los Angeles Film Festival at midnight on Friday, June 30, 2006 at the Crest Theatre in Westwood.

Directed by Duane Stinnett, a multi award-winning video game art director and animator (Blizzard Entertainment’s STARCRAFT), and starring Noel Gugliemi (TRAINING DAY, FAST AND THE FURIOUS) and Reggie Bannister (of PHANTASM series fame, who still owes Arrow that buttshot), LAST RITES tells the story of two warring LA street gangs, El Diablo Muerto from East LA and The Lords of Crenshaw from South Central, who turn up at the same time in a downtown warehouse both looking to make an illicit trade. When the LAPD crashes the party, taking down the gangsters isn’t their priority — escaping a mysterious and deadly mob of flesh-eating undead is. The warehouse becomes both a fortress against the zombies and a pressure cooker where long-simmering tensions are brought to the boiling point.

“LAST RITES walks that fine line between over-the-top, and somber, apocalyptic.”, says director Stinnett. “But, the bottom line is that this is a film that we wanted to make to entertain audiences in the same way that we were entertained when we sneaked into those R-rated scary movies back when we were kids. LAST RITES has that raw energy that will keep audiences scared and excited at the same time.”
