Last Winter pics

Yahoo!Movies scored a few pics from Ron Perlman’s upcoming sci-fi/thriller/horror flick THE LAST WINTER today, and while they’re nothing all that spectacular to look at, WINTER does sound like one of the more interesting films to be hitting this fall.

The lengthy synopsis goes like this: In the Arctic tundra of Northern Alaska, an advanced team working for a petroleum exploration company is engaged in a massive project to exploit the oil resources of the pristine land. After one crewmember is found dead, a disorientation slowly claims the sanity of the other members of the team as each of them succumbs to an unknowable fear. This creeping dread bursts open when a malevolent wind brings down a plane that approaches the station. Explosions and carnage wreak havoc on the team and all functions fail in the camp, forcing two of the members out into the cold on a desperate bid for survival. As the two journey to find help, they find themselves utterly alone in a world that is unraveling–either they are being stalked by an invisible herd of menacing phantoms, or they are going mad. Whatever does happen to them out there, they are never heard from again.

I’m reminded by THE THING here, but probably because it deals with a secluded camp in the arctic falling victim to explosions and carnage and whatnot. Of course, that’s where the similarities end… or does it? Maybe these menacing phantoms are actually THINGs chasing them down… or maybe these guys actually watched THE THING one too many times. Either way, it sounds cool, and it features Perlman, who generally does a great job in everything he’s in.

Scroll down to check out a few of the new pics, and be sure to watch out for THE LAST WINTER in your area, as it hits selected theaters everywhere this Friday.
