Latest odds have Radiohead or Ellie Goulding singing the Spectre theme song

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The only thing that inspires more James Bond rumors than the movies themselves would be the title song and who performs it. Going back to Shirley Bassey through memorable songs by Paul McCartney and Duran Duran through recent songs performed by Jack White, Alicia Keys, Audioslave, and most recently Adele, the Bond theme song is a coveted job. Director Sam Mendes recently revealed his excitement for the completed title track but we have yet to learn who performed it.

Rumors have had everyone from Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, and even Adele herself singing the theme to SPECTRE, but the top contender has recently been Ellie Goulding who shared this photo on her Instagram.

That's a wrap! 🙏🏼

While Goulding could have just been hinting that she finished her new album, Abbey Road is where Adele recorded her Oscar-winning theme to SKYFALL. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that a U.K. oddsmaker had to suspend betting on the theme song after an anonymous better put £15,000 ($23,000) on Radiohead to perform the theme. Radiohead is a favorite of both star Daniel Craig and director Mendes, but there has been no indication of their involvement to date. The oddsmaker had this to say about the bet.

“The first gamble of the day was Ellie Goulding and punters were backing her as if she already had the gig, but just as we were thinking of pulling the plug we had a load of bets for Radiohead including one customer who asked to place a £15,000 bet on the band at 10/1. There seem to be all kinds of rumors and the plot has had more twists and turns than a classic Bond tale, but surely nobody risks £15,000 on a hunch.”

Ellie Goulding would be an okay choice to perform the theme but having two female singers in a row may not set the tunes apart very much. Radiohead's unique sound would certainly make this unlike any other Bond theme song and would definitely get some additional buzz going for the new film, not that it needs much more buzz.

We should learn in the coming months who will sing the theme in advance of SPECTRE's release on November 6th.
