Lead actress for Girl with the Dragon Tattoo down to four candidates?

Rooney Mara. Lea Seydoux. Sarah Snook. Sophie Lowe.

Those are the apparent four names David Fincher is charged with the tough task of choosing from. Of course, I’m talking about the crucial lead role in Fincher’s remake of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, a dark thriller adapted from the Swedish flick of the same name.

And speaking of names, it was rumored weeks back that English ingénue Carey Mulligan was circling the titular lead, as was Ellen Page and Mia Wasikowska. Since then, Fincher and Co. made a deliberate decision to conduct a global search to find a relative unknown to play the part. This is where the names atop the page come into play.

Rooney Mara, who most recently appeared in Sam Bayer’s A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake (where most complained of her stolid, passive performance), may have the best advantage given the fact she’s already worked with Fincher on his upcoming THE SOCIAL NETWORK.

Lea Seydoux, a French actress who appeared in Ridley Scott’s ROBIN HOOD earlier this year, also had the rare distinction of working with QT in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. Quite a resume indeed!

Sarah Snook, an Aussie actress who most recently took part in the erotic thriller SLEEPING BEAUTY, is easily the least experienced of the bunch. Could work to her advantage.

And lastly there’s Sophie Lowe, also a Kiwi. She’s much more known in her native land, with a starring turn in ROAD KILL earlier this year. She also has BLAME and ONE OF US yet to come out.

Give us your thoughts. Who, of the four, do you best see playing the role of Lisbeth Salander? Is there a name you’d rather see altogether?

Rooney Mara!

Lea Seydoux!

Sophie Lowe!

Sarah Snook!
