We all know who Heath Ledger is, in case you didn’t, he’s the dude with the white face in that new Batman movie. And Terry Gilliam is the brilliant mind behind such films as TWELVE MONKEYS, THE BROTHERS GRIMM, FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS, and a lot of the Monty Python stuff including MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL. The two teamed together once in THE BROTHERS GRIMM, although it was one of Gilliam’s lesser films, I liked it. I especially liked Ledger’s performance. So now THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR. PARNASSUS is bringing the two back together.
According to IGN: The project is a modern-day adventure that revolves around the titular Doctor, a travelling magician who owes the devil his teenage daughter in exchange for his extraordinary powers. The doctor, his daughter and a charming stranger embark on one final quest in a bid to escape the devilish deal.
IMAGINARIUM will star Christopher Plummer as the Doctor and Tom Waits as the Devil. According to IMDB, along with Heath Ledger it also stars Verne Troyer, Andrew Garfield, and Lily Cole. As I stated, it’s being directed by Terry Gilliam and written by Gilliam and Charles McKeown. It’s slated for release in 2009.
