Now jump to today, where Fangoria is reporting that Canadian director Brett Kelly (MY DEAD GIRLFRIEND) is gearing up to remake ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES (or in this case, simply THE GIANT LEECHES), from a script by Jeff O’Brien (PREY). Coincidence that I just picked up the original? Oh. I think not.
Kelly has a lot of enthusiasm for the project, which he promises will “be a sexy, gory romp that will tip its hat to the movies of the ’50s and ’60s, but still provide scares for modern audiences.” Sounds like fun to me! While I’m slightly bummed this remake will be sent straight to video, as it’s getting the low budget treatment, it also makes sense that a Corman movie be made on a smaller budget, as that was what the guy was all about! Plus, O’Brien and Kelly seem to have a love for monster movies of this nature, so if nothing else, they have a passion for the piece, which will (hopefully) make it to the screen.

And to finish my story from earlier, while I’m still basking in the glow of scoring the double-feature at such a good price, I still haven’t found the time to sit down and watch either of them… I’m just waiting to be in the right ‘mind-set’ to enjoy the camp at it’s fullest!
