Legendary to bring video game Dead Rising to life as digital feature

Capcom’s zombie-fighting video game series "Dead Rising" is a popular title that has begging for a film adaptation as the games bear a great deal of influence from zombie movies. Now it seems that it is going to happen, but what is surprising is the manner in which it is going to happen.

Legendary, the company behind GODZILLA, PACIFIC RIM, and many other blockbuster films, is producing the film, but this won’t be a theatrical release. Variety is reporting that DEAD RISING will be a “full-length digital feature” that will first stream on Sony’s service Crackle with Lorenzo di Bonaventura (the TRANSFORMERS series producer) onboard to exec produce; Tim Carter will write and produce with Tomas Harlan. Variety goes on to share that there’s no director hired at this point.

It looks as if DEAD RISING is in good hands, though, as Carter and Harlan’s company, Contradiction Films, is the same company behind the kickass "Mortal Kombat: Legacy" digital series.

The DEAD RISING movie will be released on SVOD, DVD, VOD and TV after its run on Crackle.

With a plethora of zombie-themed films and television oversaturating the market right now it's hard to tell if DEAD RISING will make much of an impact, but considering the built-in fanbase from the videogames is so large it may just have a chance to stand out.

More on DEAD RISING as we hear it.
