Leprechaun: Lionsgate said to be actively seeking pitches for a new sequel

Nearly four years have passed since we got the surprisingly entertaining Leprechaun Returns, and now there’s finally some indication that Lionsgate is interested in continuing the Leprechaun franchise. Our friends over at Bloody Disgusting hear that the company is “actively seeking out pitches for the next Leprechaun movie”. They also rightfully point out that there’s a popular genre filmmaker who has had a pitch ready for years: Darren Lynn Bousman. Bousman has been saying for a decade or so that he wants to make a movie that will see the Leprechaun wreaking havoc in the Old West. As he described it, “Lep gets in a time machine and goes back to the Colorado Gold Rush.”

And he’s serious about this. Bousman told Bloody Disgusting directly,

I would make a more direct sequel to the Leprechaun franchise. I would not reboot it. I don’t want to do that. I would demand that Warwick Davis come back. I wouldn’t do it without him. I would not try to change the tone. I would make it equally as batshit, bonkers crazy. It would be between the first film and Back 2 tha Hood. It would be somewhere in that tonal frame. It got really ridiculous as they went on, but that ridiculousness is what made them fun.”

Getting Davis back might be an issue, as he already skipped Leprechaun Returns and is now working on the Willow Disney+ series. But Linden Porco did a fine job of replacing Davis on Leprechaun Returns, so I wouldn’t mind if he was brought back for another one. I just really want to see Bousman get the chance to put the Leprechaun in the Old West.

Where do you stand on this issue? Do you want to see more Leprechaun movies? If so, do you want to see Bousman’s “Lep in the Old West” movie? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
