Lestat movie might be helmed by The Stand director Josh Boone

Wow, direct one profitable adaptation of a YA novel and the world is your oyster.

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS director Josh Boone is reportedly the man to direct the first movie in Universal’s VAMPIRE CHRONICLES franchise reboot. The studio recently acquired the rights to Anne Rice’s popular book series and has clearly put it on the fast track.

If he signs on the dotted line, Boone will write and direct the film, which is currently being referred to as LESTAT. It is not an adaptation of INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, apparently; instead, it draws “from the second and third books in Rice’s series — “The Vampire Lestat” and “The Queen of the Damned,” according to The Wrap.

Boone is plenty busy already, however. He’s the man directing THE STAND for Warner Bros. – with Stephen King’s blessing, to boot. How this LESTAT news alters his commitment to that massive adaptation remains to be seen. (That project can ill afford another director abandoning it, I’ll say that much.)

Pretty impressive happenings for a guy who only has two movies under his belt (the other being something called STUCK IN LOVE). THE FAULT IN OUR STARS was made for $12 million, and has grossed over $271 million for its studio, 20th Century Fox.
