Lewis Tan thinks Shatterstar will return for Drew Goddard’s X-Force spinoff

Like a lot of people who were anticipating the inclusion of X-Force in DEADPOOL 2, I was left feeling stunned when a majority of the team met their untimely end so early into the film. I can still recall sitting in the dark of the theater, my mouth agape, and looking over at my wife in disbelief. Don't get me wrong, I laughed my ass off as teammates Shatterstar, Bedlam, Zeitgeist and Vanisher exited the fray in spectacular fashion, though I was taken aback nonetheless.

Recently while speaking with Syfy Wire at the Saturn Awards, Shatterstar actor Lewis Tan told the outlet that he plans to reprise his role as the genetically engineered mutant for Drew Goddard's DEADPOOL spinoff, X-FORCE.

“You’re going to see more of my character in the X-Force film … that’s what it’s looking like,” the IRON FIST and INTO THE BADLANDS actor told Syfy Wire. After no doubt being met with a raised eyebrow or two, Tan went on to remind everyone that Deadpool got his little red hands on Cable's time traveling device near the close of the film. He then proceeded to use it to change several aspects of Marvel film history, including the deaths of his X-Force teammates. Actually, we only saw Wade alter the fate of Rob Delaney’s Peter, but who's to say there wasn't another rescue or two that wound up on the cutting room floor?

Tan went on to explain Shatterstar's possible inclusion in X-FORCE by saying, “Thankfully, Deadpool went back and had a little time machine that he stole,” Tan winked, “so in the post-credits scene he brought back Peter, and it’s assumed that we’re all going to come back as well.” He then added, “Hopefully he brings back Shatterstar and everybody, because the fans really enjoyed that scene, and I get a lot of attention online about how they thought it was one of the best scenes in the film.”

For the time being, we know that Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), Cable (Josh Brolin), and Domino (Zazie Beetz) are confirmed to star in X-FORCE. In recent times there has also been talk of both Julian Dennison’s Firefist and Stefan Kapicic's Colossus returning as well, though a confirmation on that front has yet to be officially announced.

What do you think about the idea of Shatterstar returning for X-FORCE, or the possibility of Deadpool having gone back in time to undo the deaths of his teammates? Would you consider the move to be some good old fashioned comic book fun, or a universe-breaking loop hole that stands to lessen the impact of pivotal scenes? I'd think that if any comic book film franchise was going to bend the rules of "reality" to an absurd degree DEADPOOL is the place to do it. That being said, I would hate to see the quality of the films devolve into an eye-rolling affair on account of there being little to no stakes involved. It's a conundrum to be certain.
