The folks over at Lionsgate sent us the scoop about their line up for this summer movie wise. And while there’s more than just horror… the horror flicks are the only ones worth mentioning here.
First up? WWE superstar Kane in SEE NO EVIL, aka some entertaining slasher trash that should rival Dimension’s VENOM on the fun yet brainless level.
Seven feet tall. Four hundred pounds. A rusty steel plate screwed into his skull and razor-sharp fingernails that pluck out his victims’ eyes. Reclusive psychopath Jacob Goodnight is holed up in the long-abandoned and rotting Blackwell Hotel, alone with his nightmares until eight petty criminals show up for community service duty along with the cop who put a bullet in Jacob’s head four years ago.
When one of their own is kidnapped by the killer and her fate uncertain, the remaining lawbreakers must fight this indestructible force of nature with a violent score to settle.
Why it wasn’t slated straight to DVD, I’ll never know- but I do know that it should be fun enough to check out May 19th when it hit theaters everywhere.
Next up was The Arrow’s top film of 2005 from director Neil Marshall, THE DESCENT. Color me full of anticipation! I’ve been dying to check this monster movie out since it came out overseas, and can’t wait to see it this summer, when it hits theaters everywhere this August (specific date not decided yet… but it’s coming!).
One year after a tragic accident, six girlfriends meet in a remote part of the Appalachians for their annual caving trip. Deep below the surface of the earth, disaster strikes when a rock falls and blocks their route back to the surface. The girls soon learn that Juno, the thrill-seeking leader of the expedition, has brought them to an unexplored cave and that as a result no knows where they are to come rescue them. The group splinters and each push on, praying for another exit. But there is something else lurking under the earth – a race of monstrous humanoid creatures that are adapted perfectly to life in the dark. As the friends realize they are now prey, they are forced to unleash their most primal instincts in an all-out war against an unspeakable horror – one that attacks without warning, again and again and again.

And that’s it for this Lionsgate summer- only 2 flicks, one quality and one entertaining, but no fear- they’ll be rockin’ Jim Isaacs werewolf movie SKINWALKERS, the zombie comedy FIDO and Harry Connick, Jr. freaks out to some insects in BUG this December. Nice way to finish the year guys!
