Liam Garrigan joins Transformers: The Last Knight as King Arthur

Several months ago it was exclusively revealed by none other than our own Paul Shirey that Michael Bay's upcoming TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT would bring Arthurian legend into the franchise. Finding Cybertron in shambles, Optimus Prime seeks a way to bring the planet back to life, but to do so, he requires an ancient artifact which is conveniently located back on Earth. That artifact apparently has ties to Merlin, who was given his magical powers by a Transformer hundreds of years ago. Although it seems a little out there, recent set-photos from TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT have revealed actual knights on the set and now an actor has been cast as King Arthur himself.

Jeff Sneider of Mashable reports that Liam Garrigan has joined the cast of TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT as King Arthur. Those of you who know the actor know that this isn't the first time Garrigan has played Arthur, he previously played the King of Camelot on ABC's Once Upon a Time. I may not be the biggest fan of Bay's TRANSFORMERS franchise, but I must admit that I'm rather interested to see how King Arthur and Merlin figure into THE LAST KNIGHT.

TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT is set for a June 23, 2017 release.
