Liam Neeson says Taken has ruined European travel for Americans

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

TAKEN 3 may be bringing the saga of Bryan Mills to a close, but the repercussions of his trail of bodies and broken bones may leave a lasting impression in the real world. Despite clearly being a work of fiction, it looks like the events of the TAKEN franchise may have scarred some real world travelers.

In an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Liam Neeson shared that he has heard from fans that what happens to the Mills family over the first two movies has caused them to caution the renewal of their passports.

“Just the other day I got a letter from a school teacher in Texas who had tried to take 60 students to Europe and the families of 40 of them got the kids out of it because they had seen Taken 2. And then this year she wanted to take 20 of them and the parents all said, ‘No, because we’ve seen that movie!'”

While it is kind of foolish that these movies would cause people to question vacation plans, it is not much different than what JAWS did for beach-goers. Movies mimic our real fears about the world and if anything, this goes to show that TAKEN made an impact. Who knows, maybe TAKEN 3 will make people question traveling to Los Angeles.

TAKEN 3 opens on January 9, 2015.
