Liam Neeson to star in the drug thriller Narco Sub

The long gestating drama NARCO SUB has finally found a director and leading man. After being one of the projects director Tony Scott was working on before his untimely death, his brother Ridley has been producing the project through his Scott Free banner as directors like Doug Liman and Antoine Fuqua have come and gone. Now, according to The Wrap, Game of Thrones helmer Brian Kirk will direct the film with Liam Neeson in talks to star.

The film was scripted by SAFE HOUSE writer David Guggenheim and now with Kirk on board should be ready to go into production soon. Kirk is best known for small screen work on series like Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, and Luther.

“Narco Sub” follows a notorious Ecuadorian drug lord who forces a disgraced American naval officer to navigate a cocaine-packed submarine past the U.S. Coast Guard.

I would assume Neeson would be in talks for the disgraced naval officer since he doesn't look very Ecuadorian. This also sounds refreshingly dissimilar to the action roles Liam Neeson has become synonymous with in recent years. In fact, if handled well, NARCO SUB could play much like CAPTAIN PHILLIPS did for Tom Hanks. But, that will hinge on how the rest of the production shapes up.

NARCO SUB does not currently have a production start or release date, but once Liam Neeson is fully contracted I would expect the rest of the cast to fall in line shortly.
