Variety reveals that a new series based on The Lincoln Lawyer is in the works at Netflix. The new show would be a spin-off of the former Netflix series, which would star Cobie Smulders as she returns to her role as Mickey Haller’s half-sister, Artemisia “Emi” Finch. Haller was portrayed by Manuel Garcia Rulfo in the original series. Emi debuted in season four of the series and is set to return for the next season prior to her getting her own show. The upcoming fifth season of The Lincoln Lawyer is set to be the final one, which would then lead into the Emi spin-off.
Season 5 of The Lincoln Lawyer is said to be based on the novel Resurrection Walk by author Michael Connelly. The season will be consisting of ten episodes and the description for it reads,
“Mickey Haller’s (Manuel Garcia Rulfo) world is upended when the half-sister he never knew existed, Emi (Cobie Smulders), comes to him with a plea to help free a wrongfully convicted woman. In a season defined by blood ties and buried secrets, Mickey takes on a grueling habeas petition to overturn a six-year-old murder conviction, but the deeper he digs the more nefarious the forces arrayed against him become. Meanwhile, the stakes rise for his trusted team as Lorna (Becki Newton), Izzy (Jazz Raycole), and Cisco (Angus Sampson) step up to tackle high-profile challenges of their own. Having just saved himself from a wrongful conviction in Season 4, Mickey is now determined to set right an enormous miscarriage of justice. But as he unravels a dangerous web of corruption and lies, he must grapple with the fractured legacy of his family — both his chosen family and the family he never knew he had.”
The Lincoln Lawyer was previously adapted for the big screen in 2011. The film was based on the 2005 novel of the same name and starred Matthew McConaughey as Mickey Haller. The film received mostly positive reviews, securing an 83% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it was moderately successful with a gross of $87.1 million globally on a $40 million budget. The movie also stars Ryan Phillippe, Maria Tomei, Josh Lucas, William H. Macy, and Bryan Cranston.
