Yesterday, we told you about newcomer director Todd Lincoln and his rejected script for the second remake of THE FLY. Today, Fangoria posted an interview they had with Lincoln on his upcoming big-screen adaptation of the comic book HACK/SLASH.
Rogue Pictures is developing the live-action film based on the Devil’s Due publication, created by Tim Seeley, a horror fan at heart. The comic centres around Cassie Hack, the aforementioned heroine and vagabond of society haunted by the memory of her serial killer mom (known as ‘The Lunch Lady’). Cassie has vowed to rid the country of those like her mom, and along for the ride is Vlad, a hulking, malformed monster of a man. The comic has been through six print adventures and even a Chicago stage adaptation, if you believe it.
Lincoln penned the script alonside Martin Schenk, who helped out the director in drafting the script for THE FLY. “Audiences are craving original movies,” says Lincoln. “I’m craving original movies. The best ideas are always the simplest, and HACK/SLASH is such a no-brainer. It’s just familiar enough and yet totally fresh. There is still time to save this decade and put the hair back on people’s chests.” If only more directors took his stance.
Lincoln continues, saying that the film will be an action-horror hybrid, with a focus on the latter. Lincoln also assures the fans of the comic that the source material is not in danger of being compromised, as series creator Seeley and artist Stefano Caselli are there to make it so. Think Del Toro and comic creator Mike Mignola on HELLBOY.
