Top 10 TV Series That Need a Movie

HBO series Entourage has always been the bro equivalent of SEX AND THE CITY. With the first big screen outing for Vinnie Chase and the boys hitting screens today, we have compiled a list of the ten best television series that deserve the big screen treatment. See if your favorite made the cut and, if not, feel free to let us know in the talk backs below.

#1 – Deadwood

I loved these series and it ended far too soon. In fact, it never had a proper finale as HBO promised a wrap-up film that has yet to happen. The primary cast are all around and I am sure they would be willing to revisit the Old West. You know you would love to see where these characters are all now, wouldn’t you?

#2 – Battlestar Galactica

Campy classic series turned gritty fan favorite reboot could do with another iteration on the big screen. This one has been rumored for years and never came to fruition. But, we are now far enough removed from the SyFy version of the show that a remake is not sacrilegious.

#3 – The Prisoner

Bryan Singer had been trying to remake this classic series as a film for a long time and the end result was a mediocre mini-series starring Ian McKellen, Jim Caviezel and Hayley Atwell. But, The Prisoner is still such a great show that many have not seen that I am convinced you could make a big budget movie, and maybe franchise, pretty easily.

#4 – 24

There is talk of a 24 spin-off with minimal Jack Bauer, but that doesn’t rule out a movie. I say just bite the bullet and combine 24 and DIE HARD and have Bauer and McClane team up. Wouldn’t that be amazing?

#5 – Lost

I know, you don’t want to see Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof let you down again, but a Lost movie could take the mythology of the show and tell a standalone story without including any of the original characters. I know I want to know more about the island, don’t you? WE HAVE TO GO BACK!

#6 – The Venture Bros

Robert Rodriguez is making a Jonny Quest movie, but this spoof of that classic cartoon would make an even better movie. Ridiculous, campy, and funny as hell, The Venture Bros would be the funniest movie of the year in whatever year it gets released.

#7 – Pushing Daisies

While Bryan Fuller is putting his unique visual style and tone to macabre use on NBC’s Hannibal, the darkly comedic Pushing Daisies did an admirable job of it before. A mix of Tim Burton and Barry Sonnenfeld, Pushing Daisies only lasted for two seasons before being cancelled. It would definitely be worth revisiting, especially since star Lee Pace is pretty hot right now.

#8 – Justified

While the Elmore Leonard series just concluded a few months ago, the character of Raylan Givens is too good to stay retired. The great thing about the character is you could pop him into an original plot or you could adapt any number of prior Leonard novels and include him in the story. I would love to see a sequel to OUT OF SIGHT with Timothy Olyphant and George Clooney. You hear me, Steven Soderbergh?

#9 – Firefly

Another Joss Whedon favorite, Firefly already had a big screen continuation in SERENITY. While I was not a fan, there are tons of people who would love to see Nathan Fillion and the crew continue their adventures in another film. If STAR WARS can reunite their original cast decades after they last appeared on screen, SERENITY 2 can do it.

#10 – Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Buffy has a dedicated fan-base that ranks up there with Doctor Who, STAR TREK, and STAR WARS. But, since the series ended, fans have only had a comic book continuation to keep their slaying fix satiated. Joss Whedon is stepping away from Marvel so why not return to the series that made him a star and give the characters a movie?
