We last updated you on TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS here, with news that Anton Yelchin was in talks to play veteran TERMINATOR character Kyle Reese. Plus the bit of news here where Ammon told us all that said title is actually being thrown out the window.
I’m kind of torn on the title news, my first reaction was along the lines of ‘Ugh, really?’ But it kind of grew on me. Regardless we’ll soon be getting a new title for the fourth installment of the TERMINATOR franchise. Until we hear what that title will be, we’ve got a load of other T4 info coming in from IGN and Cinemablend.
IGN recently spoke to director McG about the (eagerly anticipated?) TERMINATOR sequel. He dropped a lot of interesting tidbits, ranging from when they’re starting to how he prepared for this challenge to the TERMINATOR TV series to Christian Bale.
The bit about how he prepared for the film:
“Naturally, the first three pictures were contemporary with Terminators coming back from the future and this picture does indeed take place 10 years from now. That’s the new beginning. It’s reminiscent and very much honors the mythology and I’ve listened very diligently to James Cameron and for that matter Jonathan Mostow, and we’re going to respect that mythology, but begin again very much in the spirit of what [Christopher] Nolan did with Batman.”
And what he had to say about Christian Bale:
“[Bale is] the most prolific actor of his generation. I’m interested in becoming the best director that I can possibly be and that begins with surrounding yourself with the most talented people you can. I went over to England and met with him and talked about what it is that ultimately makes us human and why humanity is worth fighting for, if it is at all. We had a long discussion about that. It was engaging to the degree that we both agreed to move forward.”

While that info was all good and attempted to get us stoked for this movie even more, the news coming in from Cinemablend lands more on the ‘spoiler’ side of the information highway. The spoiler actually has to do with the casting of Anton Yelchin and how his character Kyle Reese fits into the story. While not entirely spoilerific, the following bits could be considered as spoilers, so read with caution.
Cinemablend recently heard from ‘one of their most reliable scoopers’ on how the whole John Connor/Kyle Reese storyline is going to work. Here’s a bit of the scoop:
“….that’s the concept for the new Terminator films when its between the relationship of Kyle and John, who is really father and son but with the moral dilemma with John knowing what has to be done in order for him to be born….”
They go on to talk more on the whole Reese/Connor thing, the rest of the trilogy, and the potential of the TV series eventually tieing in with the films. To read the rest of the scoop, head on over here.
Remember, said info is all from a ‘scooper’ so take it with a grain of salt, though Cinemablend seems to really beleive said scooper. I can definately see it being true, and means Christian Bale might have a bigger part than I imagined. Though wasn’t Sam Worthington’s character Marcus set to be the new star and not Reese? We’ll keep you all updated as soon as we hear some news.
As stated, T4 is being directed by McG and stars Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, and possibly Josh Brolin. Production is set to start May 5 in Mexico.
