Loki season 2 premiere reaches 10.9 million viewers in three days

Audiences can’t get enough of Loki. Disney announced today that the premiere of Loki season 2 on Disney+ is their second most-viewed season premiere in 2023, with 10.9 million views globally after three days. A view is defined as total stream time divided by runtime.

The Loki season 2 premiere was only behind the premiere of the third season of The Mandalorian, but Disney never released viewership data for that season.

Loki season 2 also features Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Owen Wilson as Mobius, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Key Huy Quan as OB, Tara Strong as the voice of Miss Minutes, and more. Jonathan Majors will also be returning as Victor Timely, a variant of Kang the Conqueror who was introduced in the post-credit scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Majors is currently facing allegations of abuse, but Victor Timely will nonetheless play a major role in the new season.

Marvel could be considering a change of plans when it comes to Jonathan Major’s involvement in the franchise following Loki season 2, but nothing has been decided yet. Kang has been expected to be the big bad of The Multiverse Saga, which will conclude with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

The new season has received largely positive reviews, but our own Alex Maidy wasn’t exactly a fan. “Like Secret Invasion before it, Loki wastes a great opportunity to put Marvel Studios back on track by delivering multiple episodes that feel like they are treading water,” Maidy wrote. “If the series’ final two episodes do not produce a seismic shift in the direction of this story, I am not sure if fans will be willing to come back for a third run. Like Quantumania, season two of Loki feels more focused on deepening the mythology of Kang than telling an effective story of its own. It is a shame, as I liked the ensemble cast of Loki and the reset direction for Tom Hiddleston’s character. There are things I liked about this season, and it is worth watching for Jonathan Majors and Ke Huy Quan, but it is another underwhelming entry in the once-flawless Marvel Cinematic Universe.” You can check out the rest of Maidy’s review right here.

The first episode of Loki season 2 is now streaming on Disney+, with new episodes premiering on Thursdays at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET.
