One of the longest running in-development projects we’ve told you about here at AITH is Robin Hardy’s THE WICKER TREE, which was previously known as COWBOYS FOR CHRIST. The feature serves as a companion piece to Hardy’s classic 1973 film THE WICKER MAN. Is it a sequel? A prequel? A re-imagining? Who the hell knows. Fact is this thing is finally rolling along!
It was way back at the beginning of the year when the project scored it’s own website and here we are seven months later with the teaser trailer for the flick! Well it’s about time! The trailer runs about 35 seconds and is a teaser in every sense of the word. Dare I say it’s even got that WICKER MAN feel to it? Decide for yourself by checking out the trailer directly below or over in our videos section.
Gospel singer Beth and her cowboy friend Steve, set off from Texas to enlighten the Scottish heathens in the ways of Christ. When they are welcomed with joy and elation to the village of Tressock, the border fiefdom of Sir Lachlan Morrison, they assume their hosts simply want to hear more about Jesus. Beguiled by beautiful, sexy Celtic music, in counterpoint to the bluegrass hymns Beth sings to them, she is elected Queen of the May. Meanwhile an increasingly doubtful Steve becomes her consort, destined to be hunted on horseback by the whole community in a ritual he believes to be an innocent race. Neither of them realize that these honours are being heaped upon them for a purpose that will lead them to a terrifying end…
THE WICKER TREE stars Graham McTavish, Clive Russell, Honeysuckle Weeks, Henry Garrett, Callum Mitchell, Jacqueline Leonard, Prue Clarke, James Mapes, Keith Warwick, Brittania Nicol, Iain Stuart Robertson, Christopher Leveaux and the great Christopher Lee. It’ll probably be a couple years before we see another update on THE WICKER TREE but as soon as we hear anything we’ll pass the good word along to all of you!
