The production team behind George Romero’s upcoming LAND OF THE DEAD (which I’ll mention stars Asia Argento so I can post her pic), has decided that horror is a pretty good gig. Variety reports that Mark Canton’s Atmosphere Entertainment has teamed with Relativity Media to form Chiller Films.
Sure horror is good for a ton of coin these days, but they’re really doing it for the love of the genre. Just listen:
“On single-picture financing, it might be easier than any other genre right now. In one-offs, you can use hedge funds, foreign sales, all kinds of strategies to maximize your ownership position. Even if horror doesn’t stay as hot as it has been, there is still a fundamental audience and a comparably low-risk film investment.”
OK, so it is about the coin. I mean, that sounds like my broker talking. But at least there’s gonna be another genre production company out there. And if they teamed up for LAND OF THE DEAD, maybe they’ll have the balls to release R-rated horror.
Hope springs eternal.
