Lovecraft’s Inheritance

Now here’s an interesting flick that was supposedly spawned from the writings of H.P. Lovecraft. It comes to us from Spain and it’s called LA HERENCIA DE VALDEMAR (which translates to THE VALDEMAR INHERITANCE). I’m not sure exactly which of Lovecraft’s writings are being used, but if you had to randomly select works from a particular writer to adapt, you couldn’t do much better than H.P.

Anyways, a couple of stills from INHERITANCE have been released and I’m totally diggin’ the one of the undead-looking bastard above. You can click here to check out the rest. In the meantime, let’s try to decipher the Lovecraftian influences by having a look at the plot:

The story starts when Luisa Llorente, an expert in building appraisal, disappears shortly after moving to the mysterious Victorian mansion owned by the Valdemar family. The owner of Luisa’s company hires someone to find the appraiser, but soon they find out that he was not the only disappearance…

Could be interesting. I can’t help thinking of THE ORPHANGE while reading the plot, but nothing associated with that flick could be a negative thing in my book. I’m willing to wait and see if VALDEMAR is worth inheriting.

The film was written and directed by José Luis Alemán and stars Paul Naschy (SCHOOL KILLER, ROTTWEILER), Daniele Liotti, Silvia Abascal, Óscar Jaenada, and Laia Marull. It’s releasing in Spain this year, but we are gonna have to wait to hear about a U.S. viewing.
