Lycans snag R

As if! As if you were surprised that UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS just scored a big juicy R rating by the MPAA! Well, honestly, I kind of was. Sure, they’ve said that they were shooting for an R rating, and yeah, the previous UNDERWORLD movies were rated R… but there’s always that chance that the studio will push for a lower rating… but I guess they didn’t! Sweet!

Hot off the revelation of the flick’s kick ass poster (refresh your memory HERE), the MPAA slapped RISE OF THE LYCANS with an R rating for bloody violence and some sexuality. Wow. This flick must have some seriously bloody violence to score an R rating! I see they don’t specifically mention ‘nudity,’ so there’s still no word as to whether Rhona Mitra shows the goods or not.

I’m glad to see that Universal didn’t back down from the rest of the series, and from the footage I saw at Comic-Con, I’d say we’re in good hands with this one… even with the absence of director Len Wiseman and star Kate Beckinsale. UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS hits theaters in all of its R rated glory January 23, 2009.
