M. Night Shyamalan produced event series Wayward Pines to debut May 2015

The hot format these days seems to be the “event series” on network television. Basically, it is a mini-series that lasts for a full season of 10 to 13 episodes and, if it works out, could be brought back as a regular series. FX had success with FARGO while FOX is having less success with the about to conclude GRACEPOINT. But, FOX has another big event series coming next year in WAYWARD PINES.

The trailer debuted online earlier this year but now we have a concrete premiere date for the M. Night Shyamalan produced series. According to Deadline, FOX will debut WAYWARD PINES on May 14, 2015. On that same date, the series will also premiere in 125 countries across the globe making it the biggest international premiere for any scripted series.

WAYWARD PINES is based on a novel and the pilot was directed by Shyamalan. It follows Matt Dillon as an FBI agent searching for two missing colleagues in a mysterious Idaho town. The series also stars Terence Howard, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Carla Gugino, and Juliette Lewis and looks like a cross between LOST and TWIN PEAKS. Shyamalan has not garnered much fan support over the last few years, but if WAYWARD PINES becomes a hit we may see more of him on the small screen.

WAYWARD PINES debuts May 14, 2015 on FOX. You can check out the trailer below.
